These are taking place now in the USA. If anyone is interested in keeping in touch with what is going on and how the England team are doing have a look at these two sites -

http://www.worldchampionshipsofsurfkayaking.com/

http://www.kayaksurf.net/news.html

If you look at the second site now, it features the England team. Have a look at the Aussie film - Journey To The World Champs, part way down the page. From half way through it features the surfing - lovely looking wave...... and how do they make those boats do that? Those that were at Westward Ho! August bank holiday may recognise some faces and/or the style on the wave.

England did well. Here's a summary from the manager.

Congratulations to the England Surf Kayak team which finished 2nd only to the Basque Country at the World Championships, at Outer Banks, North Carolina USA. 2nd nation in the World is something to be proud of, and we shall be aiming to go one higher again in Australia, 2013. Well done and thanks to all the team - Captain Gary Adcock, Pete Blenkinsop, Glyn Brackenbury, Sam Davenport, James Hawker, Dan Green, Darren Bason, Steve Chivers, Andy McCullough, Marc Woolward, Emma Wynter, Tamsin Green and Juniors Aidan Brackenbury, Dylan Petherick and James Gossan - from me as team manager.

Congratulations also on outstanding performances from all in the individual heats. In particular, England officially has the best women in the world!
World Champion, Ladies short boat: Tamsin Green
World Champion, Ladies long boat: Emma Wynter
World Champion, Masters long boat: Darren Bason (from England, now living in Australia)
World Champion, Men's short boat: Chris Hobson, Northern Ireland (and adopted by Cornwall!)
Biggest Air at the Worlds: Sam Davenport
Reached World Finals: Gary Adcock, Andy McCullough, Aidan Brackenbury, Dylan Petherick, James Hawker, Sam Davenport, Glyn Brackenbury.

So only 4 of those attending failed to make the final of their class, 4 boats were in each final.

If you want to be inspired to have a go next summer, have a look at the photos here http://www.worldchampionshipsofsurfkayaking.com
