In the end I was the only one attending this event and I only stayed for the Saturday.

It is the third year of the event which started as an event for Cornwall Clubs but has extended to South West Clubs though the New Forest CC were there as well as people from a number of Devon & Cornwall clubs. Not sure of the total nuber of attendees (40+ ) but it has got bigger each year. Unfortunately Malcolm (Mega Kayaks) had to be taken to hospital during the week so couldn't attend with the demo boats (there were a few available though) and with the World Championships taking place at the same time there was a shortage of coaches.

The event was aimed primarily at beginners and those of limited experience so those two groups got the coaching on the Saturday. Unfortunately there was a very strong north westerly (onshore) that seriously messed up the surf. The combination of that plus the number of out of control beginners probably accounted for the high swim rate in the morning session. We had split into 3 groups and tried to maintain our position relative to the beach but the biggest groups were the beginners and those of limited experience and the right hand side of the beach was quite crowded.

To give you a feel for what it was like in the sea you could have a look at http://vimeo.com/30536488

I had a fun day and got quite a lot out of it even though I didn't get any of the coaching I was hoping for. I did spend time helping and advising others. It was also good to meet a few people I had previously been in contact with by phone and email on various kayaking subjects.

I didn't stay for the Sunday as the forecast was for even more wind and it had started raining and I just couldn't be bothered to put my tent up and get everything wet with little prospect for a good surf the following day.

John

Looks like you are using the GoPro! Some nice surfing bits in there.
