Rob is planning to run a series of three introduction to moving water trips for those of you who have mastered paddling a canoe on flat water and want to develop river skills.

The dates on the programme are Sunday 13th Nov, Saturday 26th Nov and Sunday 11th Dec. Venues will be decided nearer the time depending on weather and people paddling.

Please post here or e-mail me if you are interested, so far I have had e-mails from John Woods and David Wood

Dear Helen and Rob,

I loved the trip on the Lower Dart last year and would like to come along again, please. I can't make the first one (taking 32 girls caving!) but would like to put my name down for the other two...

Many thanks!

Lesley and I would be interested in coming along for the 3 sessions. I think Steve Hawkings and Chris Southcomber are also keen.

I am interested in this please.

I'm not sure if I can make the first one at the moment but I will be up for the second and third dates.

Hello Helen.

I put down my interest for those three trips.
Obviously, I would need to hire a club boat - and one-bladed-paddle Rolling Eyes - from the club. And need 'someone nice' to get it to the river and back for me.

So it looks like next Sunday 13th these people are paddling:

Rob
Helen and Elena
Lesley and Roger
John Woods
David Wood
Neil Palmer
Nicole - you will need to hire a boat from Colin, not sure how you are going to transport it if it won't fit on your car.

Colin - are you joining us?

Hope that I haven't left anyone out and that it rains this week.................

Sounds good. So, everyone gets their own boat there (wherever there may be)? See you Sunday.

Post Canoe intro to moving water Sunday 13th Nov 2011 Reply with quote
Hi All
The trip this Sunday will be on the lower Dart from Buckfastleigh to Staverton. We will be meeting at 10.00 am on the A384 in a lay by on the right about 500m after leaving the A38. The junction on the A38 is the one after the junction that takes you to New Bridge. Follow the signs towards Totnes. This is not the get in but is a good place to meet and change. The get in is another 500M down the road towards Totnes but parking is limited and we need to be quick unloading the boats and moving off for the shuttle to staverton. You will need to bring your own canoe or collect one from the club.
Please note the following
1. You must ensure the canoe has buoyancy at the front and rear of the canoe which is securely fitted. They should also have painters fitted.
2. If you are using a club boat ensure you have booked it with Colin and remember to pick up paddles when you pick up the canoe!
3. If using a club boat please do not bring the pyranha prospector as this canoe is not up to white water.
4. Please bring throw lines.

Looks like we should have some good water levels for the trip. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday if you have any questions please contact me.

This if from ROB W not Helen as I have forgotten my login in details

That's one way to upgrade Helen from a mere "Boater" Smile

I assume it is this layby http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=+A384&hl=en&ll=50.482681,-3.766379&spn=0.000997,0.00206&sll=50.482804,-3.76639&sspn=0.001993,0.00412&vpsrc=6&hnear=A384,+Cott+TQ9+6,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=19 directly opposite the Lower Dart (as the kayakers call it) get out, above the broken weir at Buckfastleigh.

See you there on Sunday

John

I suppose I have to cancel the one-bladed-paddle as I do not have the means to get an open boat to and from the river. Have a nice trip.

A very sucessful trip last Sunday on the Dart - well done everyone. Funny how it was only me and Elena who fell in!

Having spoken to most people who want to come on the next trip we have decided to change it to SUNDAY 27th November. Can you let me know if you will be coming and that you have a boat and transport.

Hi Everybody.
Am still up for open boating. And I still don't have a means to transport this big boat.
Just want to let you know of my interest - in case there's some boat transport available.

Otherwise, have great time on the water.
Nicole.

Hi All

We will meet at Holne Bridge on the Dart at 10:00 Sunday morning.

I will make a decision on the section we paddle once I get there due to current low water conditions,

See you Sunday

Many thanks to the Wheatley's - Rob for coaching, Helen & Hazel for showing us the line. We had a great trip down the Loop. Like the kayak intro we seem to almost be doing it in reverse, a gentle practice of skills two weeks ago followed by the Loop, luckily at a very low level. 10 people in 7 boats, a really good club trip. Roll on the 11th - at this rate we'll be doing the Upper Shocked

Hi All

Really good trip on Sunday was lovely to see so many open boats on the water and coping with the loop. Well done to all of you. Next trip on the 11th will either be on the Barle river running skills if we have enough water or back on the Dart loop with a focus on playing not just river running.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 11th

Rob

PS watch out for messages around the 7th or 8th with regards to where w are going to meet.

Hoping to come to the trip on 11th. Can I put my name down for a club boat, please?
Will look out for the details in due course!

Leonie - it will be great if you can join us. You will need to speak to Colin about hiring a club boat although they may be all booked for the next trip - they were all used last weekend.
