Post Sunday 11th Location for Open Boating Intro Session Reply with quote
Hi All

Sorry but I have not yet made up my mind re Sunday's location looking at the weather maps on the BBC I am 80% it will be the dart loop again meeting at newbridge at 10:00am however if they forcast a lot of rain for Saturday then I will move to the Barle. Check here tomorrow for an update. I will finalise my decision on Saturday around mid day on this forum so please check here on saturday for my posting.

See you soon

Barle is looking good at moment, 75cm with more rain for this afternoon. Unfortunately it's then forecast to be quite dry until Sunday morning. It may hold up though.

However, are you aware of the racing taking place on the Loop on Sunday? http://www.bcusw.org/downloads/JulyA2011/River%20Dart%20Race%202011-1.pdf I've no idea how well attended it will be but it's bound to add to the congestion on the river - plus they'll be impatient of us struggling down features with water on them !! Just something else to consider Very Happy

Hi All

Given there is a race on the loop tomorrow I feel it would be a good idea not to go anywhere near there. Will be very busy
We will go for plan B with a 9:30am meet at Exbridge in the car park opposite the pub t do a section of the Barle. We can make a decision there on the trip once we have seen the water levels.
So see you all at 9:30 @ Exbridge
If you intend to come tomorrow can you please post a reply so I know how is coming.

So far we have Roger and Lesley, John Woods, Helen and Elena Wheatley and myself

Thanks

Rob

Hi Rob,

Yes, I'll be there with Mike. Last time I checked, all the club boats were booked out. Is that still the case?

See you tomorrow,

Léonie

Thanks very much to Rob for organising these intro sessions. They were great fun and have added another skill to those of us that took part. We had a good trip down the Barle yesterday with 7 boats and 10 people, no mishaps, a few waves surfed, lots of eddies got. The river was running about 40-45 on the Dulverton web gauge, a good level.

At this rate the club will have to get some more opens, the four we have have been well used so far this winter.

John

Hi everyone
Thanks Rob for taking the time to run the course I know that we have all had a lot of fun learnining to navigate down the rivers that we normally run in a kayak. All I will say is that when we in our yaks complain that the levels are too low to have fun , try an open boat and enhance your skills
Cheers Woody
