Biblins is booked for the 29th - 31st August

For those of you who have not been before this is one of the club's main training events and a well attended social event. Depending on interest we can run Paddle Power, 1*, 2*, 3* and improver's training in kayaks and open boats to cover the BCU syllabus. 1* courses can include assessment and there will be the opportunity for those who have done some 2* training before to do a BCU 2* assessment (includes open boat and kayak skills). We can also on request provide Foundation Safety and Rescue (FSRT) training and assessment. We camp at the youth site by the Wye and evenings are spent socialising around a camp fire. As per last year we be running a throw line Olympics competition on the Saturday evening so get practicing!

It would be useful to check the http://sacc.co.uk/HTML/CourseStructure.html on the website to check which level course you would benefit from. Don't forget your logbooks, these can be printed and filled out during the weekend to record your progress.

PLEASE let us know which courses you are interested in by posting on the forum or e-mailing James (jputterill@gmail.com), when responding please also indicate if your require boat hire.

We also need to know who is available to coach and help on courses!

Biblins costs (Last years - might be slightly different this year.):
camping £3.50 per child, £6.00 per adult per night (includes launching)
day rate £3.50 per person (includes launching)
extended use £1.50 per person to use facilities after noon (on last day)
car parking £2.00 per vehicle per day
launching fee £1.50 per boat (youth cost)

SACC costs:
Training courses £10.00 per person per weekend
Boat hire £5 - Either the open boat trailer or kayak trailer can be brought depending on which boats are needed.

Campsite Additional Information
Additional information can be found by looking at the Biblins website here: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/biblins

PLEASE NOTE - NO CARAVANS, CAMPERVANS OR ALCOHOL (same as in previous years)

For those of you arriving on Saturday morning could you please be ready to meet at 9.00 so if you want to put tents up before paddling then you need to arrive earlier. I expect most of us will arrive Friday afternoon / evening

I am hoping that several of you are now ready for the BCU 2* assessment, please follow the links on the sacc website to check the syllabus to make sure you know what the 2* award covers in both a kayak and open boat. Let me know if you think you are ready for assessment.

Please car share if possible as the warden does not like too many cars on the site. Also remember it is a youth site so we must not be seen drinking alcohol and leaving any evidence - keep any bottles and cans well hidden in your tent / vehicle and take home the empties.

Just so everyone is aware we are on pitch 9 & 10 which is near the end of the site following the track left from the main gate.

Please can everyone also remember to ensure they close the gates, keep your speed down and not park on the grass.

look forward to hearing from you,

Hi James,

I'd like to come to this too. I haven't managed to get my 2* signed off yet as I still need to complete and be assessed on the open boating part (it's only open boat rescues that I haven't done really). Will it be possible for me to do this at Biblins and complete my 2*?

Cheers,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Yes you should be able to do open boating for the weekend and hopefully get assesed.

You will need to contact Colin ASAP to book an open boat though.

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

I asked Colin about this on the trip the other day, and he said that it isn't possible to book boats for individuals at Biblins, they are allocated depending on what group you are in?

Craig & Debs - We should be able to get you in the open boat group, please can you bring kayaks as well.

Martyn - Sorry it's a bit too short notice for me to get Craig in to do an FSRT. Ideally i need a couple of weeks notice!

I want to come along this weekend BUT I am without transport as my wife is in need of the car!

Is there anyone prepared to offer me a lift PLEASE.

I can get myself and my boat to anywhere within reasonable distance of Weston Super Mare.

I am flexible with travelling times. I can go either Friday pm or Saturday am.

Happy to share the fuel costs.

Please contact me on 07931 888567.

Cheers

Steve

Hi James,

I've managed to get permission to come to Biblins, but can only make Saturday, so I won't be camping but will turn up Saturday morning. I'm happy to either help out or get some more practice.

Cheers
