Post Biblins June 2016 Reply with quote
June Biblins,

Hi everyone,

Biblins is booked for the 10th 11th 12th June 2016

For those of you who have not been before this is one of the club's main training events and a well attended social event. Depending on interest we can run Paddle Power, 1*, 2*, 3* and improver's training in kayaks and open boats to cover the BCU syllabus. 1* courses can include assessment and there will be the opportunity for those who have done some 2* training before to do a BCU 2* assessment (includes open boat and kayak skills). We can also on request provide Foundation Safety and Rescue (FSRT) training and assessment. We camp at the youth site by the Wye and evenings are spent socialising around a camp fire. As per last year we be running a throw line Olympics competition on the Saturday evening so get practicing!

It would be useful to check the http://sacc.co.uk/HTML/CourseStructure.html on the website to check which level course you would benefit from. Don't forget your logbooks, these can be printed and filled out during the weekend to record your progress.

PLEASE let us know which courses you are interested in by posting on the forum or e-mailing Neil (jai.palmer@hotmail.co.uk), when responding. Please email colin if your require boat hire at c.southcombe@hotmail.co.uk.

We also need to know who is available to coach and help on courses!

Biblins costs (Last years - might be slightly different this year.):
camping £3.50 per child, £6.00 per adult per night (includes launching)
day rate £3.50 per person (includes launching)
extended use £1.50 per person to use facilities after noon (on last day)
car parking £2.00 per vehicle per day
launching fee £1.50 per boat (youth cost)

SACC costs:
Training courses £10.00 per person per day.
Boat hire £5 - Either the open boat trailer or kayak trailer can be brought depending on which boats are needed.

Campsite Additional Information
Additional information can be found by looking at the Biblins website here: http://www.forestry.gov.uk/biblins

PLEASE NOTE - NO CARAVANS, CAMPERVANS OR ALCOHOL (same as in previous years)

For those of you arriving on Saturday morning could you please be ready to meet at 9.00 so if you want to put tents up before paddling then you need to arrive earlier. I expect most of us will arrive Friday afternoon / evening

I am hoping that several of you are now ready for the BCU 2* assessment, please follow the links on the sacc website to check the syllabus to make sure you know what the 2* award covers in both a kayak and open boat. Let me know if you think you are ready for assessment.

Please car share if possible as the warden does not like too many cars on the site. Also remember it is a youth site so we must not be seen drinking alcohol and leaving any evidence - keep any bottles and cans well hidden in your tent / vehicle and take home the empties.

Just so everyone is aware we are on pitch 9 & 10 which is near the end of the site following the track left from the main gate.

Please can everyone also remember to ensure they close the gates, keep your speed down and not park on the grass.

look forward to hearing from you,

Cheers

Neil

Becky and I will be coming, and we would both like to do our 2*.

We'll be coming to the one a month or two later as well.

We'll either do all the Kayak Requisites to 2* this time and do the open boating next time or vice versa! Whatever's easiest Smile

Either way, we'll bring our Kayaks.

Thanks
Tommy and Becky Very Happy

Im planning on being there on the Friday to Saturday and would like to paddle an open boat on a trip if possible as I'd like to arrive on my bike and not bother with the car and thus not take my own kayak!

If anyone needs a kayak for Biblins you need to take it Tues night, or contact Colin BEFORE Tuesday to arrange to collect it from the farm. Colin will NOT be taking kayaks but will be taking open boats!

I'll be coming too, Friday to Sunday. I'd definitely like to do a bit of open boating (either on the rapids or on a trip) if possible, and also some 3* kayak/practicing on the rapids. I think I probably need to work on my own paddling most of all, but I'll help out with coaching if there is a need for me to!

Cheers,
Laura

I'll be there from friday through to sunday. I think I need to practice 2 star skills and possibly get assessed but although I've done open boating I haven't done much kayaking in the past year so I'm happy to just build up my skill level. Also happy to practice breaking in and out.
